Our Services
Questions & answers.
Getting Started
Yes. We're always happy to have a first phone call to hear about your project and what you'd like to achieve.
There's no charge and no obligation. We'll talk through your ideas, answer general questions and help you work out which of our services would suit you.
More detailed design advice is available through our paid consultations.
Arrange an initial callEvery project is different in size, cost and complexity. We typically work on projects ranging from £30,000 to £500,000, although we've undertaken both larger and smaller commissions.
We come from humble beginnings and have big ambitions for the future, but we've never forgotten where we started. We're always happy to hear your ideas, whatever the scale, and we take the time to review every enquiry to see how we might be able to help.
We offer different levels of involvement. Our consultancy and design services let you get professional advice without committing to a full build.
For larger design and build projects, we look at the scope, location, complexity and budget to see if we're the right fit. We don't publish a fixed minimum construction budget.
As early as you can. Good design takes time, and getting us involved early helps avoid changes later on.
Our availability depends on existing commitments, so get in touch to talk about when you'd like the work done.
Yes, where the project suits. We've designed and built pergolas, garden buildings, outdoor kitchens, screening, decking, water features and other bespoke structures.
Smaller builds are looked at individually, taking into account location, access and the work involved.
Costs & Investment
It depends on how much guidance and detail you need. Our design services are:
- Crafted Call: £300 + VAT (£360 including VAT).
- Crafted Consultancy: £900 + VAT (£1,080 including VAT).
- Crafted Concept: from £2,000 + VAT (£2,400 including VAT).
- Crafted Detail: from £6,000 + VAT (£7,200 including VAT).
The exact fee depends on the size, complexity and scope of the project.
Our ServicesThere isn't one simple answer. Size is only part of it. Access, ground conditions, changes in level, materials, planting and bespoke features all make a difference.
Two gardens of exactly the same size can have very different build costs. That's why it helps to talk about budget early, so we can design something that fits.
A rate per square metre can be handy for a very rough first budget, but it's no substitute for an agreed design and an itemised quotation.
Different surfaces and features cost very different amounts, so a garden is never priced at one flat rate. A small garden with difficult access can cost more per square metre than a bigger one with lots of lawn or planting.
The best way to get a realistic figure is to talk to us about your garden.
We prepare a construction quotation once there's enough design information. We work out the scope, materials, quantities and practical requirements first, then give you a detailed proposal.
Any changes or extra work are discussed and agreed with you through the contract before they go ahead.
No. Design and construction are separate services, so you can see your design fee and your build budget clearly on their own.
Any overlap or fee arrangement is set out in your individual proposal.
Yes. Knowing your budget early helps us suggest the right materials, features and level of detail. Where it makes sense, a garden can also be built in phases.
We can't promise every brief will fit every budget, but we'll be honest with you about what's realistic.
Design & Process
Every project is different, but it usually starts with understanding the site, what you need and how you want to use the space.
From there we explore ideas, develop the direction we agree on and prepare the information needed to move towards building it.
Our services and processIt depends on the size and complexity of the garden, the information available, your feedback and the level of detail needed. A simple concept can take much less time than a full design with surveys, detailed drawings and specialists involved.
We agree a rough programme with you when we prepare each proposal.
Some projects can start from existing drawings. More involved work may need a measured or topographical survey to record levels, boundaries and existing features accurately. We'll tell you what's needed.
Absolutely. We like working with architects, interior designers, structural engineers and other professionals.
We particularly enjoy projects where the house, garden and wider landscape can be thought about together.
Yes. Our design services can be commissioned on their own, and we'll prepare an agreed design package ready for the next stage of your project.
Yes, if the design is developed enough and the project suits our team. We'll look at the drawings and the site before talking about construction.
Yes. Planting is a big part of how we design. We think about the character of the site, soil, light, moisture, the seasons, wildlife and how much looking after you're happy to do.
What's included for planting depends on the package you choose.
We can point out parts of a design that may need checking and work with the right specialists where needed.
Planning applications, listed buildings, conservation areas and technical approvals may need separate professional input, and we can't guarantee planning approval.

We especially enjoy projects with interesting materials, unusual shapes or tricky construction details.
See our projectsYes. A lot of our work is designing and making individual pieces rather than relying on standard products.
We've worked on curved timber structures, chestnut pergolas, larch screening, cabins, custom seating and other one-off pieces, each designed around its site.
A smaller project might take a few days or weeks. A complete garden can take several months.
It depends on access, groundwork, weather, materials, complexity and the amount of work. We give you an expected programme as part of the agreed project.
Not necessarily, but access is one of the first things we look at. Some gardens have good side access. Others need materials and machinery brought through or around the house.
Tight access can affect how we build, how long it takes and what it costs.
We work with our own team and alongside specialist trades and suppliers. Where specialist input is needed, we organise the right people within the agreed scope.
Often, yes. Larger gardens can be split into phases, as long as the overall design allows for the later work. It can help spread the cost.
Some things are more practical and cheaper to do together, though, and we'll tell you where that's the case.
We'll advise you on looking after the landscape and materials we install. Any ongoing maintenance or regular visits would be agreed separately.
Working With Crafted Landscapes
Working across London, Surrey, Kent and Sussex, and the wider Home Counties.
We also take on suitable design commissions elsewhere in the UK and abroad. Travel and expenses outside our usual area are worked out and agreed individually.
We've always enjoyed designing and making things. Jamie started Crafted Landscapes in 2017 after working in architectural design, because he wanted the freedom to explore his own ideas and build them himself.
That shapes how we work. We understand how things are drawn, how they're put together and how materials behave, and we like finding practical ways to make unusual details work.
We're drawn to natural materials, organic shapes, interesting structures and planting that suits its surroundings.
But we don't think every garden should look the same. The house, the site and the way you want to use the garden all shape the design.
We think about material choices, what's already on site, wildlife, drainage, planting and how the garden will be looked after over time.
Where it's practical, we reuse materials, cut down on waste and make room for nature. We also support Sussex Wildlife Trust.
Of course. Our portfolio includes city gardens, country landscapes, bespoke structures and our RHS award-winning show garden.
Our ProjectsWe can consider suitable commercial, hospitality and other non-residential projects alongside our private gardens. We look at the scope, location and programme individually.
Just get in touch. Tell us a little about your garden, where it is, what you'd like to achieve and your rough budget.
We're happy to start with a free phone call and point you towards the right service.
